Calgary Forklift License - Obtaining a forklift certification or forklift license within North America would require the one training to carry out hands-on training in addition to classroom instruction. The federal, state and provincial regulatory bodies are responsible for the certification, training and licensing for powered industrial truck operators. Operators may obtain a license either through training administered by the employer or by a third party. In any case, regulatory requirements have to be met. Recertification is necessary every two to three years.

The lift truck is a powered industrial equipment which is designed along with many options, like for example stand-up and sit down models, propane and electric versions, and various sizes and types to meet the industrial needs of employees. Employer-provided, on-the-job training is the most common way for operators to acquire their forklift certification or license. This method of certification needs the employer to provide classroom sessions and practical training on equipment in the workplace. Employers may opt to train employees on each type of forklift separately, or to train them on all equipment combined. The curriculum incorporates lift truck operation methods, company regulations, lift truck maintenance and safety measures. Subject matters particular to the worksite, like for instance dangerous conditions or materials, should be included. Following classroom learning, operators are taught how to safely operate and utilize every type of lift truck on the worksite.

Certification through a third-party vendor usually needs an on-site component with hands-on practice.

Usually, a certification provided by an employer will not transfer from the existing employer to the next employer. Acquiring a forklift license through employer-provided training allows the operator to run a forklift for that employer only.

The most significant factor of lift truck license training is forklift safety. The exact safety training requirements vary from one kind of machine to another. Safety problems differ from employer to employer, and from industry to industry. Both employer-provided training and third-party providers may have to address extra requirements for safety training in applicable industries, like in offshore and marine uses.
